UltraFlex - Gym in York

Was a member for over two years until recently. Positives- wide selection of equipment, rarely have to wait for a machine, a great gym for weightlifters and bodybuilders. Negatives- NO AIR CON OR HEATING! It’s in a tin shed so freezing in winter and unbearable in summer. The few cardio machines they have are on a mezzanine so even hotter up there. They installed some fans last year but they are rarely working and when they are they just blow warm air. No WiFi. What gym doesn’t have WiFi and it’s in a bit of a dead zone so my mobile coverage was poor and I had to pay for more data due to the lack of wifi. Toilets are disgusting. I never used the showers once and the one men’s toilet is grim. Someone ticks a checklist on the back of the door hourly but they are not seeing what customers are seeing. They are terrible and clearly havnt learnt about the benefits of bleach. They were refurbishing them when I left but unless the cleaning massively improves then it won’t make a difference. Parking is limited. In my first year I got a ticket despite being a member and entering my reg number but they couldn’t have cared less and made out it was all my own fault, £100 down the drain. Often had to turn around and park in the ASDA opposite as car park was full. Finally, not the friendliest of gyms with one staff member seeing me literally daily and never acknowledging me even when he was walking right past me in over two years. It’s fairly expensive for a York gym, particularly with the drawbacks mentioned (and prices rose twice whilst I was there) so I’ve moved to a much less expensive gym. P.S. I did raise my reasons for leaving with the Manager but didn’t hear anything further.

Good gym however it needs some serious maintenance especially the male bathroom. Also no water in the bathroom it has been like that for a while. And the lockers,,, they are all need to be changed. Lastly they should have a wifi for members.
