I have been a member for 23 years and have seen the deterioration of what once was a decent gym. It is now completely overcrowded with teenagers using it like it’s a nightclub and training in packs. No policing from gym staff despite me flagging again and again. It is so dirty now and bins overflowing with dirty tissues and rubbish on the floor. Thick dust and dirty windows, peeling paint all along the rafters. I don’t think the ladies sauna floor has ever been cleaned ever. I’ve not been in the pool for years as people come out and say it’s like a holiday pool with so many teenagers shouting and messing around you can’t swim. They mess about rather than train and because no one calls out the ones who don’t put their gym equipment away or are messing about on the gym floor, they continue to disrespect the gym. If the staff has standards and enforced rules there might be more respect. My son also tells me the men use the sauna naked with no towel and nothing is done. Massive hygiene issues and no one cares. I do wonder why developers can’t see a niche market to build a new one-people would move en masse.

I was a member when the club first opened and rejoined 2 yrs ago after returning from 15 yrs living away. Unfortunately it feels like a lot of the equipment, particularly the pin resistance machines are still the originals! The gym recently had a refurbishment but unfortunately non of the pin resistance equipment was changed, just some multi stations and new flooring so still the same old stuff that keeps breaking, pins missing or bits falling off. A lot of the cardio was changed but the new stuff isn’t great quality and feels quite small plus there has been a reduction in the amount of bikes, particularly recumbent, now just one recumbent bike on the first floor and one on the ground floor which is unacceptable for a club of this size and membership! Also less cross trainers and now in the worst place in the gym, in direct sunshine! Same old problems with gangs of youths permanently on phones hogging equipment and lack of basic hygiene at pool areas such as not showering after leaving sauna and jumping straight in pool, staff used to be a lot more vigilant on that kind of thing plus early teen kids in steam room, not ideal when trying to relax! Changing rooms are a big issue, fed up of dodging people’s cameras and videos when I’m trying to get changed while they take pictures in the mirrors…pretty sure that should be looked at particularly when small children around in the changing rooms, no cameras allowed at the pool so why are they allowed in the changing rooms? Also not being able to get to hairdryers and mirrors for bags, shoes and dirty/wet clothes on the counter tops…Some signs or vigilance please!! Also would it be so hard to take a towel to the pool rather than come back into changing rooms dripping wet to get one out of the locker! Club also needs to police the lockers better and remove locks as not enough lockers at peak times. The aircon is non existent and for a club with a glass roof it really needs sorting as it’s borderline dangerous on hot sunny days! Just putting a few big fans around doesn’t cut it I’m afraid and really does put you off when you walk in to a wall of heat! Good sized club with plenty of facilities but for a premium price gym, I would expect better, unfortunately the lack of viable alternatives I feel keeps people here!
