Chronicle House - Student Accommodation in Chester

Begrudgingly leaving a star (because Google doesn't allow 0 star reviews) but also the reception staff deserve recognition for their attitude and approachability. They were patient and understanding, sympathetic of the issues of tenants this negative review is absolutely no slight against these hard working people, rather the shambolic, exploitative company they work for. It is a shame that such nice people work for a shockingly bad rental company who is demonstrably not concerned about anything aside from your money going into their bank. The first issue I experienced during my stay was a roof leak, water leaking through my light fitting, cutting off my lights for often months at a time. Months later at the end of my tenancy this still was unresolved. To compound this flagrant disregard for my living conditions the whole building was without hot water for a month during winter. Upon reviewing other reviews on Google, this has been an issue for years!!! And it STILL remains unresolved!? The sheer arrogance to expect you to live with out the basic necessity of hot running water whilst taking your money and not offering any recompense is absolutely diabolical. I cannot find words strong enough for my displeasure with Xenia as a company. I truly feel sympathy for its employees who are forced to bear responsibility for the immense shortcomings of those in charge of maintaining the living standards of students in Chronicle House. Crooks!

Quite literally the worst place I’ve ever stayed in my life. And I was in care as a child :/ I never really make negative reviews as often I think they are over exaggerated. But genuinely, I would never stay here again. I felt like the staff never cared about any of the students staying here, despite being so kind and friendly before moving in. The wifi is terrible, the TV in my room was so outdated that I couldn’t use Netflix. The drawers were broken and pathetically ‘fixed’ back on so they didn’t even close properly. My heating didn’t work during winter and they took months to fix it despite my consistent emails and phone calls asking for help. They only fixed it when I eventually withheld my rent. They charge you £30+ to come let you back in your flat, even though it can take them over 12 hours to let you back in. The hot water didn’t work for weeks on end. They didn’t care enough to fix this or really sincerely apologise. The rent is insanely high for such terrible service and poor quality rooms. When I moved in, my shower didn’t work because they had taken the parts of my shower (on/off knob) and given it to someone else. They just put the metal casing back on thinking I wouldn’t notice lol. They also took the fuses out of some of my fuse boxes, including the extractor fan above the hobs. They kept ringing to tell me I was in arrears with my rent because I hadn’t paid enough/ on the correct date. However, I had paid £600 per month on the same date as told to by a member of their staff and in email, only to be told that this amount of money was incorrect and that I was supposed to be paying it at the end of the month instead of the start. They forced me to pay twice in the same month meaning I ended up paying £1350 altogether as I had also been told I was underpaying my rent. Finally, they refused to give me access to my mailbox for months and kept promising me a key. At this point I was paying council tax but was told to wait for the letter stating how to pay it (the letter had my tax number on which I needed to set up an account), however I never received the letter because it was in the letterbox that I was unable to access. The receptionist told me that she would hold on to any of my letters and give me them but obviously that never happened. I was fined almost £100 for not paying my tax on time. Honestly this place has made me incredibly stressed and I will never recommend, nor live in a Xenia students building again.
