It's cheap and cheerful with friendly staff and decent enough basic equipment for anyone who isn't training on a competitive level. Tends to get really busy at times meaning some machines are monopolised but it's rarely crowded thanks to a large floorspace. The changing rooms have recently undergone a nice improvement. However, the lockers in there are too small to fit a motorcycle helmet in. This means I sometimes have to get changed then exit the changing rooms to store things in the larger lockers outside, a minor inconvenience. Something I've noticed about all PureGyms is that when equipment breaks down it can take quite a long time for them to fix or replace it. Sometimes for many weeks, which can interfere with a varied workout routine. The classes have music that is way too loud, you can hear it over personal headphones. I'd only do one of those classes if you're interested in some tinnitus with your workout. I know I said cheap earlier but it seems they're always trying to bump up the prices slowly. Recently got an email saying they're going up by £2 a month in December which is %10 on top of what I'm paying now. At some point it's going to become only slightly more expensive to sign up to a much better quality gym with more facilities. I visit Sunderland, Longbenton and Gateshead PureGyms. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but ultimately they're mostly a 'no frills' franchise gym that is decent enough if you don't have professional athletic or bodybuilding goals. For me, Sunderland stands out because it has two large leg presses but it's not better or worse than the others. Bumping this up a star since staff were really good with dealing with my motorcycle almost getting stolen. Even had a guy sit outside near bikes in his coffee break to keep an eye on them 👍🏻 Update Oct 24: Had to lower my score again as multiple machines have been broken for long periods of time. The incline press machine in particular is one of my faves and has been broken since June... it's now Oct Update Jul 25: They've finally managed to replace some of the aging machines with nice new ones. However they've removed some machines entirely and not replaced them, Back Extension and Lateral Raise machines are 2 off the top of my head. Would've bumped up a star but they took as much as they gave
