East End Pool & Gym

An extremely disappointing first and last visit to East end pool, Byker. A visit to another Better leisure centre was so much 'better'. 1. Concession age 60 compared to 66 at Byker, £4.20 compared to £6!? 2. My booking was neither checked nor acknowledged upon arrival. No assistance provided in directing me where to go. 3. The changing facilities were spotless, Byker was nowhere near this standard, changing areas wet, strong smell of urine, toilets had not been cleaned. 4. Booked online fitness swim in one of six lanes, Byker did not have the six lanes, this ruined the experience! Other swimmers did not seem to understand 'clockwise' 5. The locker £1 was refundable, Byker 20 pence was not refunded. I completed my 1K for CRUK as part of the 10K in November however the experience was not as pleasant as the other Better leisure centre. Now to find an alternative venue to complete my 10K challenge!

I have a gym membership here. The positives are the price and it having a pool and a well equipped gym. The bits I really don’t like is the cleanliness, of the pool area especially. Often the cubicles smell of urine, the walls are mouldy and the sauna obviously does not get properly cleaned regularly. It’s a shame because the gym and pool are well used by the community, just wish the operators would invest more in making it clean for people to use.
