I’ve been to several Anytime Fitness locations across London, and Chalk Farm is by far the worst I’ve experienced. From the moment you walk in, there is a strong, constant smell of sewage / dirty toilets. This isn’t a one-off issue – it’s been there every time I’ve visited. The gym feels damp, poorly ventilated and unhygienic, and the showers feel grimy and unpleasant, not like somewhere you actually want to use after training. There is no proper air conditioning, the gym is small and cramped, and there is limited equipment compared with other Anytime Fitness branches. Several key pieces of kit you’d reasonably expect at this price point are missing, and overall it does not justify the membership cost if this is your main club. By contrast, Anytime Fitness Swiss Cottage and Ladbroke Grove are clean, well-maintained and properly equipped, so the gap in standards is very obvious. I’ve also felt uncomfortable with the behaviour of the manager. On multiple occasions, I’ve noticed him staring at female members while they work out, which creates an uneasy and unprofessional atmosphere. For a gym that should feel safe and welcoming to everyone, this is not acceptable. Anytime Fitness has clearly moved towards a franchise model, but whoever is running the Chalk Farm franchise is dragging the brand down. The owner and manager of this gym are putting the reputation of Anytime Fitness into question. I will be escalating this to Anytime Fitness management and headquarters, because this site is a serious let-down compared with other branches and needs urgent attention. Until there is a clear improvement in cleanliness, maintenance, equipment and professionalism from management, I would strongly recommend choosing a different Anytime Fitness branch – or a different gym altogether.

I initially gave this gym a lower rating when it first opened, but after trying other gyms in the local area, I came to the realization that this gym, while not massive, has everything you need. Considering its convenient location and the fact that it's open 24 hours, you're more likely to actually go, rather than join a bigger gym and not attend. It offers all the essentials to get strong: free weights, squat racks, pull up bars, benches, and even a boxing bag, which many larger gyms don't have. It also has private, luxurious showers and changing rooms, which really add to the overall experience. You can check the app to see how busy it is, but in my experience, I've never been there with more than 7/8 people. It's never crowded unless you go during peak times, which is the case with any gym in the world.
