I’m a new member to Nuffield Gym in Cambridge. The positives are many. Facilities and the number of different classes are very good. Lots of variety to suit everyone whatever their preferences are. The PT instructors, in particular, Finn, are very supportive and make me feel at ease which is great for someone returning to “gym life” after many years. The ladies changing rooms have good quality hairdryers and straighteners so this saves you having to bring your own. There is a nice cafe to sit and relax and have a coffee/tea after a workout. The team on reception, particularly Grace and Jess are also welcoming, helpful and approachable. The only downsides are that it would be lovely if towels were provided and the pool was a little bigger.

I've been a member here forever. The pandemic seemed to be a trigger for decline. Covid was an excuse to stop towels that were included in membership but were never reintroduced. For a year the swimming costume drier was out of order 9 times out of 10. It usually works these days but isn't very effective and needs to be upgraded. They removed tissues from the changing rooms. They closed 2 out of 3 spa pools and the remaining one is pool temperature with bubbles. One day I heard some "swimmers" (a group of elderly women who spend most of the time floating and chatting) complain about the pool temperature and next day the temperature was increased such that a decent swim leaves me feeling overheated. It has been like that ever since. Changing rooms are looking tired and shabby. Floors are wet and grubby looking. Showers are very dated and I often have to try a few to find one where there is soap in the dispenser, the shower will turn on and the temperature will adjust. They have added more and more classes making it very hard to find times where I can rely on a simple 3-lane configuration in the pool with fast/medium/slow lanes. It is so busy it is hard to find a space in the car park. A good portion of the car park floods when it rains so often you have no choice but to get wet feet. The hedge where pedestrians step out to cross to the front entrance is overgrown such that people are always stepping out in front of cars - accident waiting to happen. There are kids classes and time slots now so it is often awkward in the changing room with kids around. At the risk of sounding like Hyacinth Bucket, the gym attracts the wrong type of people these days. I often find myself surrounded by groups of noisy blokes with their giant protein shakes, trying to impress each other by laughing and joking the loudest, using phones which are supposed to be prohibited etc. Any times I've emailed management about any issues I've never had a reply. I'm at the point of cancelling as it's no longer pleasant.
