Tesco Extra

I like Top Valley Tesco because it’s so big and always quite well kept and reasonably well stocked. There are the odd things you can’t get (an example for me is Perfect Ted drinks) which is a shame considering the size of the store. We drove from Colwick to Top Valley today for the Christmas market and was rather disappointed. It wasn’t at all like what I’ve seen promoted online by members of the public. Someone offered me a tea and I was shocked that all I got was a shot glass worth considering tea is 90% hot water anyway. The lady on the Teapigs stand was very lovely though, and clearly doing her job well. The lady on the Lindt stall was busy engaging and serving too. Not many of the staff were proactive like these ladies. It’s clear that you don’t need more than 2 staff per stall, but the ladies on Pepsi & Crisps were just using as an excuse to have a chat, and not really acknowledging anyone to try their samples. One made eye contact with me and just continued talking to her coworker, didn’t seem like they wanted anyone to go over. Overall, considering the small things you got e.g. one small celebration, one small Lindt bear/reindeer, 1 small minced pie - it felt more like brand promotion and tasters than an actual Christmas market. The hot chocolate stand was just outright non functional and unoccupied. Members of the public on social media depict something very different, for one, there was no evidence of goodie bags anywhere here at Top Valley.
