I have been a member for several years, and this was likely my final session, having served a three-month notice period. I want to be clear that the staff are fantastic, work hard and do an excellent job. However, the condition of the changing rooms and pool area is unacceptable and poses a clear health risk. The changing rooms and showers are damp and visibly covered in black mould, indicating serious failures in cleaning and maintenance. The poolside and changing areas are excessively humid, suggesting problems with the ventilation system. There also appears to be an issue with the pool itself, as my eyes stung significantly during use. I am expecting my second child and had planned to pause my membership for six to twelve months with the intention of returning. Given the current state of the facilities, I will not be doing so.

rejoined David Lloyd three months ago, hoping things had improved—but honestly, nothing has changed. Yes, they claim to have spent a lot of money refurbishing the gym, but in reality, all they’ve done is lease new machines, paint over old walls, and add a big Lloyds logo display. That’s it. The spa section and changing rooms are still in a terrible state—dirty and far from what you’d expect from a so-called “premium” club. Dirt is everywhere, all the time. The showers are full of mold, which is extremely harmful to health, and nobody seems to care or do anything about it. The pool is filthy, and the temperature is inconsistent. Whenever it’s family time and you bring your little one, the water is freezing cold—this has been the case for at least five years. It almost feels intentional. The jacuzzi and kids’ pool have parts missing, leaving sharp edges exposed—how is this even compliant with health and safety standards? I’ve complained multiple times through the app—no response. On Wednesday, I even left a message at reception with a lady (curly hair) who took all my details and promised the manager would call me Friday. Today is Friday—still nothing. I submitted another complaint through the app requesting a callback—again, nothing. And yet, they have the audacity to email me saying membership fees will increase from January, which I clearly stated I do not agree with. David Lloyd might have been a premium gym years ago, but now it’s worse than PureGym. Honestly, Nuffield is ten times better. So think twice before locking yourself into a one-year contract with a company that clearly doesn’t care about its customers—or their safety.
