Spiral Backpackers Hostel

Spiral is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at! It has such a warm, family vibe thanks to the amazing community — most people are long-termers, so it truly feels like one big family. A lot of people come here just to bridge a short period until they find a house, but end up staying because there’s simply nothing better than living with your friendgroup. It’s definitely the people that make this place so special, but even the hostel itself is great value for money and cozy. The beds have curtains for privacy, the bathrooms are cute and mostly clean, and the kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. Plus, we have two TVs for relaxed movie evenings! We also got pink girl's bathroom and the best shower partys in there as well as 2 disco balls (one at the reception and one in the kitchen) which is bringing the party vibes and a pet reptile at the reception. My first 2 days here I would have agreed it was the worst hostel ever. People's stuff was strewn everywhere to the point where you could hardly walk. But day 3, and a normal amount of luggage, the floors had been cleaned, bath scrubbed and it was like any normal hostel. Maybe the mess was because it had been a big holiday weekend. The kitchen is huge, and clean, which was nice. But 1) they could use having a system to label food. Japan, on the door to storage, they had installed a pen, slips of paper asking name, room #, checkout date; with roll of tape. Impressive! 2) Spiral wanted you to wash and dry your dishes but they were constantly running out of drying towels. I agree about the crinkly pillows. A nuisance every time you turn over. The location cannot be beat. So near the bus and train stations, near a huge IGA supermarket, lots of restaurants and attractions within walking distance. So I'd say what you see all depends on the day. I saw no bugs. A few flies came in when the doors were open.
