West Rye Foreshore was surprisingly better than I thought. Depends on the site you're given, most have water and power, but ours only had power. Water was not too far away. We had no room to park our car either, so we had to park it on the street which wasn't an issue. Easy access to the beach and amenities were in good condition and cleaned twice a day. Downside*** road noise is bareable but can be super noisy early morning with trucks. Some of the long term stayers are very moody, so make sure you adhere to the rules or they will complain to the park customer service staff. Ie. Don't cross over onto their territory 😉

Don’t bother with this site if you’re in a tent: you’re paying $50 to use a shower block and have the luxury of camping in a free for all carpark that isn’t managed. Ripoff campground. 1. $50 regardless of whether you’re a tent or a caravan. The park has chosen to maximise profit and so there were no unpowered sites to choose from despite our tent site being basically a small patch between two boat sheds and a fair walk from a powerbox we didnt need. Great way to incentivise any form of tourism outside vans and the peak periods. 2. Heaven forbid you camp on a market weekend - we awoke to cars from market goers surrounding our tent and parking us in. We had to chase down market goers as they walked away from their car to explain that they were parked on camp sites. 3. Saw the ‘ranger’ drive around the site all through the above debacle, seemed unbothered by the fact his campground had just become a carpark. didn’t once check in with us or the parked cars. Didn’t even stop to chat during our dusk camp set up so i’m going to assume we could’ve avoided the $50 fee and he wouldn’t have cared. Shame. 4. No clear signs, i’ve been to free camp sites with better signage than the permanent marker written numbers scrawled on the power box. It’s clear that the site is designed towards the summer peak season and caravan/campervans. Thats fine, but it is unacceptable to have your “peak season” rates extend for months, include weekdays and not provide cheaper “unpowered” options. There are those that just need a campsite for a tent in a council that otherwise chases away or fines car sleepers and carpark campers. Other councils have cheap or donation based camp options around parks, foreshore reserve, and sports centres. But the Peninsula council evidently can’t be bothered to do anything but half measures for maximum profit. Hey council if you wanna get in touch with me and justify the $50 I’d love to hear it. They must be expensive shower cleaners.
