A lot went wrong with this stay. I called a few times the day before to ask about early parking, but no answer. Thankfully, they let me park early when I arrived which i did appreciate, but communication was non-existent. Check-in could have gone badly, this hostel clearly preferences foreign travellers, I was told I must show a passport, and my valid Australian government issued driver’s licence wasn’t accepted. As a local Queensland citizen, that felt incredibly unfair. The policy is buried in the fine print, but if I didn’t happen to have my passport, I would’ve been turned away after already paying a deposit. Even though I was able to check in, the fact that I could’ve been refused entry had i not had a passport in my own country really stuck with me. To be fair, the man at reception was friendly, he was just following a policy that clearly isn’t designed with Australians in mind. The room was poorly maintained, with scratched walls, a mouldy, dusty air conditioner, and no remote to use it. Based on the state of the room, I wouldn’t trust the pool to be clean either. We were so over it, we ended up booking a room at the Mantra just to finally feel comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to Australian travellers or to anyone expecting even the bare minimum level of comfort or hygiene.

The hostel is located very well, close to tram stop Cavill Av, also very close to all the night life which is great. It was however unexpected that we had to show our passports, luckily we head pictures which was okay but they didn’t accept our regular id’s. The room was okay, for what you pay. You get two beds and a desk, for what we booked at least. There was a shared bathroom but that was fine, it said so on the booking. While checking out we had to wait a few minutes but that was okay. You also had free breakfast but had to wash your own dishes afterwards, which is totally fair. The staff was friendly and you can easily meet people if you just start up a conversation. You get what you pay for, enough.
