Typical case of "you get what you pay for". Staff was sometimes a bit hard to get a hold of, the bell next to the office didn't work, but they were very friendly. I'd recommend noise cancelling headphones because you can hear everything though the door. Also the door lock was kinda buggy, sometimes I had to enter the PIN 3 or 4 times until it worked. Also shower sandals are a good idea because the bathrooms aren't really clean at all. I didn't use the kitchen because it also looked kinda gross. The company in the backyard during evening usually is kinda nice. The fridge in the private room was an awesome feature (but it wasn't clean as well of course).

This hostel could be a lovely place due to its amazing locating with just a 3 minutes walk to coogee beach but unfortunately it has been the worst hostel we’ve stayed in during our Australia travels. The bathrooms and showers are very unkept, constant smell or urine and floors are always wet in the bathroom from the showers bad draining system. There is no safety measures at all, the front door has electric wires hanging out of it and we were given codes for the gate and front door however both were just left open all night for anyone to wander in. I got up at 2am and had to lock both myself on one occasion for our own safety. Although the usual signs everywhere to keep quiet after 10pm which is basic hostel etiquette, there are no staff to ensure this is followed so unfortunately during our stay we were kept awake until all hours by a group of boys screaming and shouting all around the hostel until 5am and smoking marajuana and treating it as there own party house. On our information sheet it said night staff on duty from 7am-7pm but it did not exist and no staff were there to ensure the hostel was quiet or locked up and safe at night. Staff were all very nice during the day however they seemed aware of the loud evenings but nothing was done and the guests were still allowed to stay and continued to make excessive noise during our 4 night stay. Overall I wouldn’t recommend it needs a serious review of staff and management structure to make guests feel more comfortable and safe.
